The Redesign Goal
The goal of this project was to update the existing customer online account design to be consistent with the updated company web UI kit standards and to improve the overall usability of the application.
Requirements Gathering
Collaboration with business stakeholders and the application team was required for a successful redesign. Through communication and collaboration I was able to gain an understanding of features required within the redesign.
Design
After gathering requirements, I began the redesign of the initial layout of the applications. After presenting the proposed redesign to the application team through wireframes and gaining their feedback, I then began creating high fidelity mockups of the application.
During this phase I consulted with the UX team during our design reviews to receive feedback and direction if needed. Once my designs were approved by the UX team, I then took the designs to the application team for final approval. This was an entirely iterative process where I received feedback, revised designs, and then returned for additional feedback/approval.
CHALLENGES
During this process I faced design constraints related to loading performance issues. This forced me to go back to the drawing board to accommodate for these issues.
This was a particular problem when designing the policy overview tiles found on the account overview page. Initially, I had designed these tiles to include a billing overview of each policy upon opening the account overview page. However, due to poor loading performance, we discovered it would take too long to load all of this data at once. This was unfortunate because the main reason users go online to access their account is to view their billing information and make a payment, and for this reason I wanted to make this information easily accessible for the user. In order to improve usability and address the performance issue, I came up with the solution of putting this information within an accordion. Using the accordion, users can still access this information by expanding the accordion–requiring the system to make only a single call for a policy's billing overview versus having to call several billing overviews at one time.
Results
The final designs were officially put into production in April 2019. The redesign makes the customer online account design consistent with the new Erie Insurance UI standards.
ACCOUNT OVERVIEW
Displayed below is the account overview page where customers can access all of their policy and billing information. Also included is the customer's agent contact information and a list of easily accessible helpful resources.
MY PROFILE
Updates were made to the my profile page, making it easy for the customer update basic account information.
MOBILE DESIGN FOR ACCOUNT OVERVIEW
I designed collapsable policy tiles within the account overview, freeing up screen real estate. This allows the user to easily see an overview of all their policies, decreasing their need to scroll.
